where do the animals go?

This thought struck me when I was posting a response to sugar’s topic about a cat that had died. It’s something that I’ve thought about before whenever I’ve lost a pet, so … do you think that animals go on to something else as some believe that humans do?

hmmm, I've looked this up in the bible before and never found a for sure answer. you'll have to fill me in on other faiths. I figure if ya go the hole god rout and he created everything then more than likely were not the only things going to heaven. I guess if your muslem then pigs are screwed!

Just this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge.
When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes
to Rainbow Bridge. There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so
they can run and play together. There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and
our friends are warm and comfortable.
All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor. Those
who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them
in our dreams of days and times gone by. The animals are happy and content, except
for one small thing; they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left
behind.
They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks
into the distance. His bright eyes are intent. His eager body quivers. Suddenly he
begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him
faster and faster.
You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling
together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon
your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into
the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from
your heart.
Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together....

Yeah, I'm thinking they'd go to Heaven too, even though the Bible doesn't say whether or not they do. I'm thinking they would because they're usually programmed by nature to act a certain way, I mean, even though they'd be able to reason and think maybe, they usually react instinctively to things. *and laughs about the pig thing* Wouldn't that be like for the Jewish thing too, since they can't eat certain foods or something like that? *smiles* But yeah, I'm also curious about what others would think on where they think animals go.

The poem I posted here, is something I've often found helpful to people who have lost a pet. It's a poem I go looking for regularly as it's so beautiful. I hope it helps someone by it being here. As for what happens, I don't know, but what is written there, is a nice idea.

Ah Kev, thanks, that made me smile. That's cute.

aww that's very sweet Kev, I agree that while it is nice to think that there is somewhere where our beloved pets go when they pass on, I also wonder, and this is just something I ponder sometimes, weather we don't attach too many human qualities to our animals. How much do they think/ understand about the world they're living in?

i guess it does not matter where the pets go just as long as there not in pain

Aw, very sweet Kev. I've seen that poem before and always liked it.
I'm sure there's someplace for pets. God did create them and I'm sure He loves them as much as we do, so even though the Bible doesn't mention it there's probably a whole pet section up in Heaven. I like to think that when we pass on someday we'll find our dear departed pets up there waiting for us.

I was going to post the rainbow bridge poem too Kev, but it seems that you've taken care of that for me *smiles*

Hey I like that poem. I think that animals that die go to an animal heaven.

Post 16 by Belinda (Veteran Zoner) on Wednesday, 19-Oct-2005 1:59:00

yeah they all go to heaven, does thatinclude splders and snakes and sharks etc?

Post 17 by Resonant (Find me alive.) on Wednesday, 19-Oct-2005 5:59:08

Aww, cute poem! Since I'm not all that sure about the fate of people after they die, I wouldn't like to guess for animals, but it would be pretty policentric to assume the fate of their soul changes depending on whether or not they were favoured by a human wouldn't it? Also, if you believe in reincarnation, then an animal's spirit is no different from a person's, just in a different cycle of life.

Good question. Well, maybe they have their own heaven. But then the question is. Is there a difference whether the animal was good or bad?

Post 19 by bozmagic (The rottie's your best friend if you want him/her to be, lol.) on Thursday, 30-Mar-2006 16:09:59

Well, I'd rather go to Heaven than this Rainbow Bridge place if humans could go there too. Everything must surely go to heaven when it dies.

i think rainbow bridge is only a transitional place, where animals wait for their mates or human partners. maybe that's it?
